Explore Natural Norfolk with the Broads Outdoors Festival!

It’s no secret that we are completely in love with the landscape surrounding our holiday cottages in Norfolk. We are, of course, talking about the beautiful Norfolk Broads! Full of wonderful wildlife, stunning plant life and a whole host of things to do, there was only one place we were ever going to set up our self-catering and bed and breakfast holiday cottages.

Residing in such a hub of activity we’re also up to date with what’s going on in our home patch, helping your sort out your itinerary for when you come down to stay with us. This week we’re very pleased to announce that from Saturday 3rd May until Sunday 18th May there is a very special event taking over the Norfolk Broads… the fantastic Broads Outdoors Festival! There are so many special events planned that we couldn’t possibly list them all in one blog post, so today we have rounded up our favourite events for the week ahead. Keep your eye out for more events from the Broads Outdoors Festival in our upcoming posts though!

Not to be missed on day one of the festival is the Horning Boat Show. Surrounded by the picturesque shops, restaurants and waterways of Horning, the show is perfect for both boat enthusiasts and novices alike. There will also be plenty of activities to keep the children occupied, including a little something from the guys at BeWILDerwood!

If your kids just can’t get enough of BeWILDerwood they will even be hosting their own Minty’s Whizzy Windmills event on the same day. Children can get stuck in making whizzy windmill flowers for a very special garden, completely absorbing themselves in the fantastical world of BeWILDerwood.

On Sunday 4th May why not start off your day with Breakfast with the Birds up at Surlingham Church Marsh? We don’t think there is anything better than a walk around the Broads followed by a hearty breakfast at Surlingham Ferry House pub. Later in the day you could even take part in the Literary Cruise at Waveney River Centre. After boarding a genuine 1930’s boat you will be treated to readings of work from authors who have been inspired by water, as well as treated to homemade cakes, lunch and refreshments!

Monday 5th of May promises to be just as slow-paced and idyllic. Our pick of the day is the Bluebell Woodland at Sotshole Broad, right next door to Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden. The stunning displays of vibrant bluebells are the perfect antidote to pre-holiday stress!

Come to think of it, so is the Sail the River Bure on the Wherry Albion event on Tuesday 6th May. Run by the Norfolk Wherry Trust, the event will give visitors the chance to explore Cockshoot Marsh by boat while taking in the surrounding flora and fauna. You will even stop off at a nearby hide to get even closer to the rivers shier residents.

The Broads Outdoors Festival looks set to be fun for all the family, allowing visitors to explore every possible corner of this diverse and exciting habitat. With so many events being held you might even want to stay for a proper holiday! If so, we think that our bed and breakfast cottages on the Norfolk Broads are perfect. With a range of both bed and breakfast and self-catering holiday cottages available, you are sure to find your perfect accommodation as close to the action as possible!
