Wildlife, Weaving and Boat Racing Aplenty at the Norfolk Broads!

Well, it looks like our spell of glorious sunshine and blue skies might not last much longer! The weather around our holiday cottages in Norfolk is predicted to get a little ropey over the next couple of days, but we are a tenacious bunch and aren’t about to let a bit of wet weather stop us from experiencing everything that the beautiful Broads has to offer!

One event that we are really excited about is How Hill Nature Tots at How Hill House on Wednesday 28th May. In a world where technology is tempting many children away from the outdoors, this event aims to coax them back out by letting kids smell, listen, touch and explore their beautiful surroundings, spotting minibeasts, building dens, getting muddy and taking part in treasure hunts along the way!

The outdoor adventures continue on Friday 30th May, this time at Carlton Marshes. While the focus on Broads wildlife is usually placed on our beautiful birds, butterflies and otters, Carlton Marshes are shining the spotlight on our wonderful reptiles instead! Their Reptiles event is an exciting opportunity for children to get closer to the elusive snakes and lizards that call the Marshes home.

For those who prefer to stay dry and toasty, there is a great Introduction to Weave event taking place at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse on the same day. If, like everyone here at our bed and breakfast cottages on the Norfolk Broads, you have always wanted to learn a skill like weaving, then this event is perfect. You’ll get started on a simple pre-threaded ‘laptop loom’, exploring colour and texture to create your very own length of beautiful cloth.

It’s been a while since we featured an event from one of our favourite places, BeWILDerwood, but we couldn’t leave out something as fun as their Great Grubble Boat Race! Taking place between Saturday 24th May and Sunday 1st June, the race will see children build magnificent blow boats from a whole manner of materials! The boats can be as extraordinary or unexpected as they like, and will be used in a nail biting race to the Twiggle turreted houses!

Finally, why not seize the chance to get closer to some of our most majestic wildlife with the Deer Discovery Walk at Holkham Hall on Wednesday 4th June? You’ll learn all about the resident red deer and fallow deer on a picturesque guided walk, including how their behaviour and the management of the parkland changes with the seasons. Make sure you don’t forget your binoculars and cameras!

Will you be standing up to the gloomy weather forecast by paying a visit to one of these events in the coming days? If so, why not stop over at Hall Farm Cottages too? We have a range of stunning holiday cottages on the Norfolk Broads that act as the perfect place from which to head out and explore. Spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated, there is sure to be a cottage to suit your needs.
