Duck Broad near Hickling adopting Military techniques

There is a unique piece of development happening just down the road from us at Duck Broad near Hickling. Over the years due to nature taking its course it has become increasingly difficult for local wildlife to roam freely, Boats have found it difficult to travel through Duck Broad too.

The Broads authority has adopted an idea that has been used in Afghanistan, to build walls similar to those used in the war zone to protect the military from explosions.

The idea is to drop steel cages into the Norfolk Broads, fill them with sediment and create an island. A superb idea that was literally suggested as a tongue in cheek comment from one of the Broads Authority engineers.
The idea is in planning mode now and will help ease the whole Duck Broad area, which will certainly benefit the local wildlife and holiday makers alike.

This is a sure tell tale sign that our beautiful Broads area is high on the agenda for continuous preservation, this is good news for all Norfolk Broads Holiday makers.

If you want to visit Duck Broad from our Horning Holiday Cottages, it is simply a 15 minute drive away and it has beautiful views of the Norfolk Broads, with a few lovely little pubs that are open all year round.
